An artist of ElZhi’s stature only comes along every few decades. A walking Legend and incredible MC. It goes without saying that we at Reinvent Thyself are HUGE fans of the Detroit music scene from ElZhi, Royce Da 5’9″, Eminem, Guilty Simpson, Black Milk, Slum Village, Illa J, D12, J Dilla… You see we could be here for days going on about the incredible talent Detroit breeds. I really believe there’s something in the water over there because these guys don’t slack a minute and their work speaks for itself. Back to ElZhi. A definite top 10 MC in my book and I feel we haven’t scene his best work yet which is very scary. He can be scene in a video for Jeep Emerging Artist commercial for the 2011 Jeep Compass wearing our Reinvent Thyself Homage To Greatness t-shirt. What a blessing. El is a guy with great style and the fact that he chose to wear our T-shirt in a commercial when I’m sure his closet is like a stock room speaks of the design and quality we pride ourselves on.

Donte´is an artist I’ve been following a lot. In fact, he was a model in our Spring/Summer 2011 Presentation. He’s an incredible artist based out of Colorado Springs and just  released a new single called “What’s The Meaning” for his up coming mixtape entitled “Picture in Motion”. One of my favorite Hip Hop groups and huge supporters of Reinvent Thyself reached out to me to design their album and provide creative direction for their album “Brunch”. I’ve always been inspired by Hip Hop and have always wanted to design and work on other projects outside of fashion so needless to say I was very excited to be a part of such an incredible project. Seeing this project come to fruition has truly been a blessing. I received a copy of the album in advance and was impressed by the progression of Foodchain. They represent authentic American Hip Hop with a message. A very special Thank You goes out to my fam Prod, FL, C1, Champ, Alex The GreaTTT, Mo Heat, Mic Coats, DJ Louiscide and Franswa. A great piece of work from an incredible Group and I wish you all much success in the future. If you’re in Denver tonight, they will be having their album release party at Rock Star Lounge. I’ve been following Melo’s career since the 2002  McDonald’s All American game which I watch every year. Not to mention he won the Slam Dunk contest that year as well. While living in Denver I was fortunate enough to see him play in some amazing games. When I was informed he was wearing the Reinvent Thyself “Live Together” tee I had the worlds biggest smile. For someone who is definitely a top 5 player in the NBA and one of the NBA’s best dressed to wear our tee on national TV when he had a million other options is a blessing! Thanks Melo, LG, and Bay. La La\’s Full Court Life. \”The Getaway\”

 

It’s not often you meet someone that’s passionate about their work and extremely humble when praised for their talent. I was very fortunate to meet Reggie Jones II while attending Colorado State University in 2001. Right away I knew he’d be someone I’d build a strong relationship with for many years to come. He’s the one famous for designing the Reinvent Thyself Logo in 2003. I’ll never forget seeing in the Library for the first time after he completed and screaming. What a joy that was. If you’ve gotten the chance to know Reggie, you know how down to earth, funny and progressive he is. Always thinking about what’s next, not what was. Never one to talk about what he’s doing, he’d rather show you and let his work speak for him. Trust me, his work speaks volumes. Sometimes I have a really hard time believing he was born right here on the place we call earth because his work is so beautiful and refined. The narrative in each of his pieces tell so many wonderful stories not just about struggle and triumph but about his experiences and the world as he sees it. He held his most recent exhibit at Chashama Gallery in Queens NY which I attended and it was nothing short of amazing. If you ever get the chance to visit any of his exhibitions I highly encourage you to do so. He is an artist in every sense of the word and I’m blessed to know him. Not only an incredible artist, but an amazing son, brother, father, mentor and friend. I don’t believe you’ll find another person more passionate about their craft with a willingness to always want to get better and make this world a more beautiful place to be than
